    Description

Pfizer’s competitive quality improvement program supports independent interventions that standardize and enhance local care pathways for adults infected with MBL-producing Enterobacterales or Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. Projects should address measurable performance gaps, from early risk identification and diagnostic optimization through appropriate treatment and outcome evaluation. Priorities include identifying high-risk patients, improving risk assessment, reducing broad-spectrum antibiotic use, shortening time to diagnosis and appropriate therapy, and reducing treatment duration where clinically appropriate.

Supported approaches include rectal swab surveillance, rapid and advanced microbiology, predictive or clinical decision support tools—including artificial intelligence—and improved data sharing among hospital stakeholders. Projects should apply existing knowledge to local practice, align with national healthcare priorities, and embed sustainable improvements into routine workflows. Pfizer makes award decisions through internal review; funded organizations independently design, implement, and conduct the work.
