The Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) awards Pilot Research Grants annually to support investigations directly related to eye banking and/or corneal transplantation. The program gives preference to pilot projects, well-defined short-term protocols, and initial studies directed toward new research initiatives. Proposed research must be relevant to EBAA’s mission, with awards selected on scientific merit and available funding.
The program supports physicians, eye care specialists, basic scientists, and supervised trainees and eye-bank personnel. Recent funded work illustrates its scope: synthetic corneal graft integrity, limbal stem cell deficiency, corneal storage solutions, allograft survival, fungal keratitis, computer vision for identifying donor tissue at risk of primary graft failure, and transcriptional changes during extended hypothermic storage.
