Description
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management supports local planning and management projects in the state’s 20 coastal counties. The program helps local governments refine and implement plans and strategies for coastal resources. Eligible work can include education and outreach, planning, intergovernmental coordination, research or studies, and development of local ordinances.
Funding priorities are designated annually in consultation with the Coastal Resources Commission. Past cycles have focused on beach, shoreline, and water management, as well as natural hazards and storm recovery. Funded projects have included beach management plans, coastal hazard assessments, drainage studies, flood mitigation plans, and land use plan updates.
