Description
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) offers Planning Assistance Grants through its Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. The awards help schools and communities develop comprehensive plans for safer, easier walking and bicycling to school. Successful applicants receive planning assistance from a regional development organization or a statewide planning consultant, rather than an award amount stated on the program page.
Plans may cover an individual school, an entire school district, or a community with several schools. They include student and parent or caregiver engagement, analysis of existing conditions and local data, and priorities for potential infrastructure improvements and school-based education and encouragement strategies. MnDOT develops its SRTS grant schedule and funding levels with advice from the SRTS Steering Committee.
