Description
The Port Host Communities Revitalization Fund is administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), using funding allocated by the Virginia General Assembly. It supports the strategic removal or redevelopment of deteriorated port-related properties in the town of Front Royal and the cities of Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Richmond.
The program addresses non-residential structures whose deteriorated condition may make them unsuitable for productive use and create a substantial deterrent to future economic opportunity in the surrounding area and region. Its scope includes structures built or used for port activities, properties located near a port to benefit from those activities, and structures on or near rail or highway routes that serve or previously served a port.
