Description
The Porter Physiology Development Fellowship supports graduate students from non-traditional backgrounds pursuing full-time PhD studies in the physiological sciences. Sponsored by the American Physiological Society (APS) and the William Townsend Porter Foundation, it combines financial support with professional development and encourages participation in APS. The program serves students who are first-generation college graduates or come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The fellowship considers both the promise of the student's research and the support available to help them develop as a researcher. Priorities include research quality, significance and relevance to physiology, alongside the fellowship's importance to the student's academic and career development. Strong mentoring, research skills development, additional training and coursework, and a supportive research environment are central to the program.
