The Institute for Advanced Study's School of Mathematics offers memberships to mathematicians and theoretical computer scientists across all career stages, with a focus on mid-career researchers. These appointments provide an opportunity to dedicate 2–11 months to full-time research in any mathematical subject, free from teaching or administrative duties. Approximately 85 members are selected annually, spanning postdoctoral positions, joint appointments (including Veblen Research Instructorships and DIMACS joint positions), von Neumann Fellowships, Chern Fellowships, and memberships for mid-to-senior career researchers. Members have access to on-campus housing and the Institute’s extensive resources, fostering a vibrant environment for intellectual exchange and collaboration.
