Description
The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF), in collaboration with the Mito Foundation in Australia, offers this fellowship through its Research Grant Program. It supports postdoctoral research and clinical work aimed at improving diagnosis and treatment, and ultimately achieving cures, for primary mitochondrial disease (PMD). The program emphasizes disease-focused basic, translational, and clinical research alongside training the next generation of mitochondrial disease researchers.
Applications addressing any form of PMD are welcome. The 2026 program prioritizes precision medicine approaches that address biological or clinical heterogeneity and clinical trial readiness work that develops necessary data, tools, or infrastructure. Research drawing on secondary mitochondrial dysfunction is also welcome when applicants provide a clear, compelling rationale for how it may benefit people with PMD.
