Description
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) funds postdoctoral fellowships that combine research training with studies advancing understanding of suicide or testing treatments and other preventive interventions. Investigators from all academic disciplines may apply for basic or clinical research training and basic science or applied research projects. Each study must have an essential focus on suicide or suicide prevention and include at least one suicide outcome measure.
AFSP considers treatment-feasibility studies and projects adding a suicide-related population or treatment component to an existing funded study. Supplemental projects must contribute to understanding and preventing suicide, with AFSP data separable from the larger grant. The fellowship is intended to develop early-career researchers’ capacity for independent careers in suicide research through a detailed training program and meaningful guidance from an experienced mentor.
