Description
The Montana Potato Research & Market Development Program supports demonstration projects, applied research, and market development addressing the needs and opportunities of Montana’s potato industry. Created by a vote of potato producers, the program is administered by the Montana Department of Agriculture with advice from the seven-member Montana Potato Advisory Committee. Its goal is to encourage scientific and practical research into commodity production, marketing, and market development.
Proposals generally must offer practical, near-term applications that can stimulate an expanded potato industry. Supported work includes improving seed potato quality, controlling diseases and pests, improving growing practices, disseminating research information, and conducting publicity or sales promotion campaigns. Research priorities identified by Montana Seed Potato Growers include pathogen and vector management, improved agronomic practices, and on-farm research.
