The Practitioner Fellowship at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) brings non-academic practitioners into an interdisciplinary community to connect social and behavioral science with practical problems. Launched as a pilot in 2025–26, it serves people whose work applies behavioral science, including journalists, policy practitioners, consultants, public servants, and entrepreneurs.
Practitioner fellows develop original work relevant to contemporary social issues while exchanging perspectives with academic fellows. The program emphasizes reciprocal learning: practitioners contribute knowledge of how social science operates across sectors, while seminars, informal working groups, and other exchanges help them reconsider and deepen their own projects. CASBS seeks practitioners with a record of excellence, curiosity about academic research, and an interest in translating research into responses to significant and everyday problems.
