Key Information: Collections must be housed in the United Kingdom, and the named early-stage researcher must be a Society member.
The Prehistoric Society’s Collections Study Award supports research into a specified area of a museum’s archaeological collections, archives, or both, relating specifically to human prehistory. Projects may address material from any part of the world, provided the collection is housed in the United Kingdom. The award is intended for genuine partnerships between museums and named early-stage researchers, including postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers or those with equivalent experience.
The Society’s Grants Committee selects one or more projects each year according to best overall value for money. Projects should advance knowledge of the selected material within its broader field, lie within the applicants’ competence, and be deliverable on a specified timescale. Support can contribute to both partners’ costs and essential external services, including work that improves collections care, accessibility, interpretation, or educational resources.
