Description
The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy runs this journalism prize to promote investigative and explanatory reporting on land policy and sustainable urban development across Latin America. It recognizes published journalism rather than proposals for future work, accepting reporting across print, digital, audio, and audiovisual platforms. The competition focuses on how land policy addresses the economic, social, and environmental challenges facing communities.
Reporting must relate to the institute’s three impact areas: land and water, land and communities, or land and fiscal systems. These encompass stewardship of land and water resources, equitable allocation of territorial resources, and coordinated land-use planning and public finance. Launched in 2022 at the Latin American Conference on Investigative Journalism (COLPIN), the prize is dedicated to Tim Lopes, the Brazilian journalist murdered while investigating a report on Rio de Janeiro’s favelas.
