Description
This grant, administered by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Division of Public Health, is part of the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP). The program aims to reduce teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, by supporting evidence-based reproductive health education for youth ages 10–19. Funded projects must replicate one or more approved evidence-based program models (FLASH, Rights, Respect, Responsibility (3Rs), or Teen Outreach Program®), and also address at least three of six adulthood preparation subjects (adolescent development, education/career success, financial literacy, healthy life skills, healthy relationships, parent-child communication). Additional requirements include establishing both a Community Advisory Council (CAC) and a Youth Leadership Council (YLC) to ensure community and youth involvement. The grant is targeted to agencies serving the 50 North Carolina counties with the highest teen birth rates.
