Preschool Outcomes Initiative (POI) - FY 2027 supports Alabama public school systems with projects to improve inclusion, developmental outcomes, and early intervention transitions for preschoolers with disabilities.

Description
The Preschool Outcomes Initiative (POI) is administered by the Alabama State Department of Education’s Special Education Services (SES) Section. It funds projects to improve educational, developmental, and functional outcomes for preschool children with disabilities across Alabama. Projects must address at least one preschool indicator in Alabama’s State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report: preschool environments, preschool outcomes, or early childhood preschool transition.
The initiative prioritizes participation in regular early childhood programs alongside typically developing peers and growth in positive social skills and relationships, acquisition and use of knowledge and skills, and appropriate behaviors to meet children’s needs. It also supports seamless transitions from Part C Early Intervention to Part B Preschool Special Education, with an individualized education program (IEP) developed and implemented by each eligible child’s third birthday.
