The Princess Grace Awards Playwriting Fellowship supports a playwright at the onset of their career through an unrestricted cash award and an artistic residency at New Dramatists. Administered by New Dramatists on behalf of the Princess Grace Foundation-USA, the fellowship offers time and resources to explore artistic work on the recipient’s own creative terms. The September–June residency provides access to Manhattan workspaces, opportunities to develop work with collaborators, and mentorship from professional playwrights.
The program seeks original, authentic, unheard voices in theater. Selection focuses on extraordinary promise, storytelling originality, quality, and new perspectives. The fellow joins a community of New Dramatists writers, Princess Grace artists, and theater practitioners, with advocacy for both the playwright and the winning script throughout the fellowship.
