Description
The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF), in collaboration with the Mito Foundation in Australia, offers the Principal Investigator Award to support research and clinical work benefiting people with primary mitochondrial disease. The program welcomes disease-focused basic, translational, and clinical research, with an emphasis on improving diagnosis, developing treatments, and ultimately finding cures.
The program’s stated priorities include precision medicine approaches that address biological or clinical heterogeneity and clinical trial readiness work that develops the data, tools, or infrastructure needed for interventional trials. Research addressing any primary mitochondrial disease is welcome. Projects drawing on secondary mitochondrial dysfunction must provide a clear, compelling rationale for how the work could benefit people with primary mitochondrial disease.
