Summary: Strategic grants supporting collaborative projects that address root causes in housing, mental health, and public safety for long-term impact in Greater Akron.
The Akron Community Foundation’s Proactive Grants program is designed to invest strategically in initiatives that address the root causes of critical community issues before they escalate. Rather than reacting to immediate needs, this program supports projects that demonstrate active research, community engagement, and a focus on systemic or policy-level change. Current funding priorities are housing, mental health, and public safety, with continued support for addiction recovery, aging adults, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Grants are available in two main categories: Systems Change (for policy or structural transformation) and Systems Capacity (for strengthening organizations to sustain impact).
