Description
The Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS) is operated jointly by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It supports core regional universities and universities with strengths in specific research fields, helping them expand distinctive research internationally and contribute solutions to regional socioeconomic issues and problems facing Japan and the world.
Support focuses on strengthening research environments through strategic university management grounded in existing strengths, including specialized research centers. The program promotes collaboration among universities, the development of consortiums of research universities, and faster societal implementation of research. Its broader goal is to form a group of research universities that drives improvements in Japan’s overall research capacity and creates new value.
