This grant supports excellent, strategically oriented research projects within industrial and environmental biotechnology. The aim is to fund projects that address major scientific questions and challenges, with an emphasis on sustainability, scalability, and potential to impact ecosystems or productivity. Research should involve a clear element of biotechnology, broadly defined per OECD standards, and may cover topics such as engineering biological tools for sustainable production, developing monitoring technologies for microbial activity, enabling bioeconomy bioproduction, improving biomanufacturing efficiency, environmental protection through biotechnology, ecosystem manipulation, or advancing data science and digitalization in these fields.
Projects must be led by researchers at universities or non-profit research institutions in the Nordic region (Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden). International collaboration is encouraged and may be prioritized in the evaluation process.
