Description
Project SEARCH Support is administered by the Alabama State Department of Education’s Special Education Services (SES). It supports Alabama local education agencies delivering Project SEARCH, a business-led, one-year employment preparation program conducted entirely at the workplace. Students with disabilities receive classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training through worksite rotations, culminating in individualized job development.
Funded through IDEA Part B, Section 611, the initiative reimburses licensing and program expenses for starting, renewing, or replicating Project SEARCH programs. Program development brings together education, vocational rehabilitation, community support, and host-business partners. Planning priorities include high-quality internships, disability awareness education, an employability skills curriculum, a Business Advisory Committee, and employment search processes, supported by implementation training and individualized training as needed.
