Description
This grant, administered by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Special Education Services (SES), supports Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in Alabama to launch, renew, or replicate Project SEARCH programs. Project SEARCH is a comprehensive, business-led transition-to-work program designed for students with disabilities. It immerses students in real workplace settings for a full academic year, integrating classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training. Funding is strictly reimbursement-based and covers Project SEARCH licensing fees, essential materials and supplies, and professional development or training (including travel) directly related to the implementation and operation of the program. The initiative emphasizes collaboration between LEAs, host businesses, vocational rehabilitation, advocacy organizations, and other community partners, requiring a detailed implementation plan and budget for successful, sustained outcomes.
