Description
The Wildlife Conservation Board’s Public Access Program funds planning and implementation projects that create or improve opportunities to experience wildlife in California. Established in 1947 to support public access areas and hunting and fishing, the program now also supports trails, multilingual interpretive signs, accessible parking and restrooms, community outreach, and interpretive programs.
The program prioritizes non-consumptive wildlife recreation, hunting and fishing access, and equitable access to parks and nature. Projects should improve access for underserved communities and include meaningful collaboration with California Native American tribes. WCB seeks projects that build lasting connections to natural areas and encourage stewardship.
