The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Lifelong Learning supports projects that bring humanities ideas, insights, and great works to general audiences in non-classroom settings in the United States. Projects must use sound scholarship and an analytical approach to explore significant themes, deepen public understanding, and encourage dialogue. Funding supports exhibitions, long-term interpretation at historic places, and public lectures and discussion forums.
For 2027, NEH welcomes work on Western civilization and America’s place in it; great works of literature, history, philosophy, and theology and their contemporary relevance; the American Revolution’s 250th anniversary; civic education; civil discourse; cultural literacy; and close reading. Lectures and discussion forums must address one of these areas. Exhibitions and historic place projects may seek Planning or Implementation funding; lectures and forums receive Implementation support only.
