The Public Library Per Capita Grant supports Illinois public libraries’ service improvements, funding work guided by state library standards to help libraries meet or make progress toward them.

Description
The Illinois State Library awards Public Library Per Capita Grants annually to qualified Illinois public libraries. Funding supports public library service that meets, or makes progress toward meeting, Serving Our Public 4.0: Standards for Illinois Public Libraries. Libraries assess their performance against the standards and identify objectives, time frames, and priorities for improvement where they fall short.
Awards are based on each library’s eligible service-area population and funds appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly. This program is distinct from the Equalization Aid Grant for libraries with a low library tax base. Grant funds must supplement the library’s regular budget and be used for the public library services described in its approved application.
