Description
Public Spaces Community Places is a crowdgranting program created by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) with the Michigan Municipal League and Patronicity. It combines donations from residents and other supporters with a state matching grant to create or revitalize public spaces in Michigan. Patronicity administers the crowdfunding campaigns and provides one-on-one coaching.
The program seeks projects that activate community places and have established public awareness and local momentum. Examples include plazas, parks, trails, public art, farmers markets, community kitchens and reused spaces. Its universal-design funding also supports new accessible public spaces and accessibility improvements to existing spaces.
