Description
The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) administers this program through Making Efficient and Responsible Investments in Transit (MERIT), its statewide transit grant program. It supports internships, mentorships, apprenticeships, professional training, and other career-development programs centered on public transportation and commuter assistance.
Agencies can design apprenticeships across the industry, including pathways for mechanics, operators, dispatchers, and operations supervisors. The program seeks to build awareness of careers in management, maintenance, operations, marketing, and other specializations while giving participants hands-on experience. Both post-collegiate apprenticeships and pre-graduate training are eligible.
