This opportunity funds adventurous, ambitious, and curiosity-driven research projects in environmental science. The scheme is designed to enable discoveries that unlock new knowledge and foster innovation, with a focus on high-impact outcomes for science, society, and the environment. Projects can be pure, applied, technology-led, or policy-driven and must predominantly fall within the remit of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches are strongly encouraged, as are collaborations with other research funders and users. Use of novel technologies, such as artificial intelligence, engineering biology, and quantum technologies, is welcome.
