This opportunity supports investigator-initiated research that advances the field of reconstructive transplantation, with a strong emphasis on projects that address the needs of military service members, veterans recovering from traumatic injury, and their families or caregivers. Projects may cover any research phase from basic science to translational studies (including preclinical animal models and clinical research involving human subjects or anatomical substances), but clinical trials are not permitted. Proposals must be scientifically rigorous, include relevant preliminary or published data, and demonstrate clear military relevance. Research must address at least one of the program’s focus areas, such as immunosuppression, graft monitoring, biomarker development, or outcome measurement for vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA).
