Description
The Recreation Communication Boards Pilot Program is a four-year initiative (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2028) administered by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources under Program Open Space Local. The program provides financial assistance to eligible local governments for the purchase and installation of communication boards in public play areas at state and local parks. These boards use photos, symbols, or illustrations to support communication for individuals with limited language skills, fostering more inclusive and accessible play environments. The program was established by HB 420 (Chapter 568, 2024) and reflects Maryland’s commitment to accessibility and recreational equity.
