Recreational Trails Grants support Texas trail sponsors in building and improving public motorized and non-motorized trails, trailheads, and facilities to expand opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Description
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) administers the National Recreational Trails Fund in Texas with Federal Highway Administration approval. Funded by a portion of federal gas taxes on fuel used in non-highway recreational vehicles, the program supports both motorized and non-motorized recreational trails.
Grants can support new trail construction; restoration, rehabilitation, and resurfacing; trailheads and trailside facilities; and trail corridor acquisition. Projects may also provide accessible trail features, educational signs, or environmental mitigation. The program funds site-based trail work rather than stand-alone research or planning, and funded trails must be open to the general public.
