Description
The Recreational Trails Program, administered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), provides federal funding to support the construction, restoration, and maintenance of recreational trails and related facilities throughout Georgia. The program enhances both nonmotorized and motorized trail experiences, including pedestrian, biking, equestrian, water, and off-highway vehicle trails. Grants may also support trail safety and environmental education initiatives. Funding is intended for on-the-ground projects that improve outdoor recreation opportunities and promote trail safety and stewardship.
Eligible applicants include qualified local governments, state and federal agencies, and authorized commissions. Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status may apply for education grants only. Projects must be primarily recreational rather than transportation-focused and located entirely within Georgia.
