Description
The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) funds local sponsors to construct and maintain motorized and non-motorized recreational trails in Arkansas. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) administers the program with the Federal Highway Administration. New trail construction and major maintenance of existing trails are its principal funding priorities; eligible work also includes trail restoration, relocation, trailhead and trailside facilities, trail linkages, and education about trail safety and environmental protection.
Funding is reserved for motorized and non-motorized trail recreation, with a discretionary portion for diversified use. Within that portion, preference goes to projects serving multiple compatible recreational purposes or finding innovative ways for motorized and non-motorized users to share a corridor.
