The Recreational Trails Program supports South Carolina trail projects that build, improve, or maintain motorized and nonmotorized trails and facilities to expand and sustain recreation.

Funding Amounts: Reimbursement of 80% of eligible costs after the recipient pays the full cost

Description
The Recreational Trails Program is a federal program administered in South Carolina by the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT) under Federal Highway Administration approval. It helps provide and maintain trails for motorized and nonmotorized recreation. Supported work includes new trails, improvements and maintenance, trailhead and trailside facilities, and acquisition of trail corridors.
Projects are assessed for overall quality, need, public support, planning, and the resources to carry out the work and manage the trail after completion. Priority goes to projects connecting or extending trail systems at least 10 miles long and to projects in low-income areas.
