Description
The Recreational Trails Program is a competitive set-aside of Transportation Alternatives funds administered by the West Virginia Division of Highways. It supports recreational trails for pedestrians, bicyclists, equestrians, in-line skaters, cross-country skiers, and off-road motorized vehicle users.
Eligible work includes maintaining or restoring existing trails; developing trailheads, trailside facilities, and linkages; acquiring trail property or easements; and constructing new trails. The program also supports trail equipment, accessibility assessments, and education on trail safety and environmental protection. Sponsors may seek design funding before construction when a project’s scope, cost, or feasibility is not yet sufficiently defined.
