Description
The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s REAP Recycling section administers the Recycling Assistance Grant Program. It supports local governments and other West Virginia entities planning, initiating, expanding, or upgrading recycling and source reduction programs. Projects may also provide related public education or develop markets for materials generated by recycling programs. The program is funded by a $1 fee on each ton of solid waste disposed of at West Virginia landfills.
Proposals must be designed to produce a significant, measurable reduction in the municipal solid waste stream and plan to involve all or a substantial share of residents in the project area. Competitive review considers conservation of natural resources, public education, recycling valuable materials, and extending landfill life or reducing the need for new landfills.
