Description
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) runs this competitive program to help communities overcome the extra costs of redeveloping blighted industrial, residential, and commercial sites. Grants support site preparation—including demolition, public infrastructure, environmental infrastructure, and soil correction—so previously developed land can return to a different or more productive use. The program aims to create jobs, strengthen the tax base, and support neighborhood revitalization.
DEED considers a project's redevelopment potential, contamination remediation needs, use of tax increment financing, and proximity to public transit in the metropolitan area. It also considers multi-jurisdictional projects that address affordable housing, transportation, and environmental impacts.
