The Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania offers several Regional Faculty Fellowships annually for humanities research connected to its annual theme. The 2027–2028 topic is Empire. Fellows pursue their research while joining an interdisciplinary community that includes Penn faculty, Mellon postdoctoral fellows, advanced doctoral fellows, and other participants. The fellowship includes access to Penn’s library for the award term.
The Forum on Empire invites concrete, materialist investigations of empire rather than abstract or metaphorical treatments. Research may address any geographical region, time period, or facet of empire, including struggles against imperialism and colonialism. The theme examines culture and ideology as sites of domination, resistance, negotiation, and invention, including how imperial power shapes knowledge production, cultural institutions, and the circulation of ideas.
