The Regional Studies Association (RSA) supports individual early-career researchers through funding for a clearly defined, discrete piece of regional studies and/or regional science research. The scheme funds a specific project with an identifiable outcome, rather than a general programme of work. It can support pilot studies, research leading towards a larger grant application, and exploration of niche or developing areas not yet ready for larger funding.
The RSA directs applicants to its updated prioritised research themes. Assessment considers research quality, project deliverability, and the researcher’s capacity to develop as a leader in the field. Projects are administered through the host institution, run for no more than 18 months, and carry reporting and ambassadorial obligations.
