Description
The Rehab Medicine Scientist Training Program (RMSTP) is organized by the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) and supported by NIH’s National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research. It develops physician-researchers who can contribute original rehabilitation research and compete successfully for NIH and other research funding. Its goals include strengthening the evidence base for rehabilitation treatments and demonstrating rehabilitation’s value to payors and policy makers.
RMSTP connects physicians with tools, knowledge, mentors, and collaborators relevant to the problems of human function they want to investigate. Four participation phases support researchers from early career exploration through funded training and independence. An annual Research Career Development Workshop combines lectures, small-group interactions, and individual meetings to define research domains, identify mentors, and plan research training and funding proposals.
