Description
The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) supports organizations providing viable, affordable rehearsal space for nonprofit arts groups and performing artists in New York State. The program funds creative rehearsal time for dance, music, theater, interdisciplinary performance, and performance art—not auditions, classes, workshops, or showings. Subsidized hours must be publicly available and promoted to the performing arts field.
The program emphasizes facilities and amenities that meet artists’ creative needs, inclusive outreach, and removal of participation barriers, including physical-access barriers. Review considers artistic and cultural vision, contributions to artists and the field, service to historically underrepresented communities, and sound management of rehearsal facilities. Applicants must have experience operating rehearsal-space programs and control of the proposed space.
