Description
The Renewable Energy Fund (REF) supports qualifying renewable energy projects throughout Alaska, from reconnaissance and feasibility studies through final design, permitting, construction, and commissioning. Managed by the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) with a nine-member REF Advisory Committee, the program emphasizes cost-effective renewable heat and power that reduce and stabilize energy costs for Alaskans.
Established by the Alaska Legislature in 2008, REF develops local energy resources, reduces diesel use, creates jobs, keeps money in local economies, and supports economic development. AEA evaluates and ranks competitive applications and recommends projects to the Legislature. Final funding requires legislative appropriation and the Governor’s approval.
