Description
The Renewable Energy Program supports alternative energy use in Pennsylvania through assistance for geothermal technologies and wind energy projects. It is jointly administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and Department of Environmental Protection under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). Eligible work includes geothermal heat pumps using ground, groundwater, or underground mine water; wind generation and distribution facilities; and manufacturing facilities for renewable energy components.
The program supports both project development and planning. Eligible costs include necessary land and building acquisition, site preparation, manufacturing construction and equipment, energy facilities, feasibility work, and permit fees. Grants support component manufacturing, wind projects, and planning studies; geothermal system installations receive loan rather than grant support.
