Description
This Horizon Europe Innovation Action supports the design, demonstration, and deployment of decentralised renewable energy systems—referred to as "renewable energy valleys"—in African urban or rural contexts. The aim is to address local energy needs through local production and consumption, reducing reliance on central grids and fuel imports, improving grid stability, and fostering operational flexibility. Projects should deliver sustainable renewable energy access, create socio-economic benefits (health, jobs, skills), and integrate environmental considerations such as biodiversity and the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus. Proposals must also address value chain development, workforce training, market strategies, regulatory frameworks, and include a comprehensive life cycle analysis. Collaboration between African and European partners is required, with strong involvement of African SMEs and alignment with EU-AU priorities and previous EU renewable energy valley initiatives.
