Description
Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, runs Research Challenges as competitions in areas of high innovation. Participants propose approaches to defined scientific or technical problems, and winning teams receive recognition that may open avenues for partnering with the company. Launched during Merck KGaA’s 350th anniversary in 2018, the series has covered compound synthesis, materials research, lab connectivity, patient experience data and manufacturing decision-making.
The featured 2026 Lipid Challenge sought innovative, technically feasible applications of phosphonolipids in areas such as drug delivery systems and bio-inspired materials. Other challenges have addressed different problems, so prizes, eligibility and submission requirements should be read in the context of the individual competition.
