    Description

The Helen Hay Whitney Foundation supports early postdoctoral research training across all basic biomedical sciences. Its Research Fellowship provides sustained financial support to help launch the careers of young scientists engaged in biological or medical research. The program aims to broaden postdoctoral training and experience, rather than support established scientists or advanced fellows, and generally favors moving beyond laboratories where applicants have already received extensive training.

The research plan and evidence of outstanding scientific promise are central to selection, with consideration in some cases of major barriers overcome. Three-year fellowships are overseen by the Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Committee. Scientific exchange is also integral to the program: fellows attend a two-day Annual Meeting, where third-year fellows present their results and participants encounter biomedical fields beyond their own.
