Description
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Research Grants support basic science that advances understanding of CF’s underlying causes and disease pathogenesis and helps identify new treatment strategies. Studies may operate at the subcellular, cellular, animal, or patient level. Proposals must generally be hypothesis-driven and include sufficient preliminary data; projects developing research tools or reagents may also be considered.
The Fall 2026 competition prioritizes CF-related diabetes, gastrointestinal complications, selected pulmonary manifestations, and infection research. Projects outside these priorities may be considered but undergo portfolio-alignment review and may receive abbreviated review. Interventional clinical studies belong under the Clinical Research Award or Clinical Pilot and Feasibility Award. Proposals restoring CFTR protein function or fixing or replacing the defective CFTR gene should use the Path to a Cure Research Grant Program.
