The Early American Industries Association (EAIA) supports projects that preserve and present historic trades, crafts, and tools and interpret their impact on everyday life. Administered by its Research Grants Committee, the annual program funds research into the history, use, and manufacture of tools, the work of craftspeople, and traditional industries. Previously funded topics include shoemaking lasts, sailcloth repair, wooden drinking vessels, tinsmithing, furniture production, spinning wheels, and water-powered sash mills.
Support may also extend to active conservation, public demonstrations, and educational programming at historic sites with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Recent projects have included traditional printing interpretation, blacksmithing, public timber framing, broom making, and conservation of an architectural notebook.
