The Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types (FIRST) Research Grants program is designed to stimulate impactful scientific and clinical research into ichthyosis and related skin types (epidermal differentiation disorders, or EDDs). The program welcomes projects in basic science (such as keratinocyte biology, genetics, skin inflammation, and itch mechanisms) as well as clinical research (including improved diagnosis, treatments, and quality of life for affected individuals). The goal is to accelerate advances in understanding, managing, and ultimately curing these rare skin conditions, with an emphasis on projects that can evolve into sustainable research initiatives.
