    Description

The National Coalition of Independent Scholars (NCIS) offers Research Grants to help finance members’ forthcoming research projects. Support can cover expenses such as travel to archives, libraries, and other resources essential to research. The program supports the next stage of a project rather than reimbursing work already completed: funded activities must take place within the 12 months following the award decision.

NCIS is a nonprofit providing professional affiliation, support services, and community to scholars working outside tenured academia. Its membership includes independent researchers, contingent and adjunct faculty, retired academics, and scholars between posts. Research Grants are offered through three recurring award cycles—Spring, Summer, and Fall—with grant access tied to membership status and a qualifying period of continuous membership.
