The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) awards annual research grants to critical care professionals through two mechanisms: the SCCM-Weil Research Grant and the Discovery Research Grant. Supported work spans basic science and cellular research, translational and clinical research, education, health services and delivery, and survivorship and recovery for patients and families.
Research priorities include understanding critical illness mechanisms, treatment effects and disease progression; improving early recognition of severe disease; and developing organ support and approaches to patient comfort. SCCM also supports research on patient safety, communication, care coordination, team-based learning, and survivors’ experiences. Priority goes to projects with broad relevance or community engagement and those using Discovery resources, including its Data Coordinating Center and Clinical Coordinating Center.
